The call for Pep Guardiola’s exit as City boss is already gaining momentum, with a #PEPOUT cry from fans on Twitter. He is suffering his worst run of five defeats in his 17-year career as a manager, while Manchester suffers its worst home defeat since 2003 with a 4-0 thrashing by Tottenham.
#PEPOUT trending after fifth straight loss
Manchester City and Pep suffered their fifth loss in a row in all competitions between October 30, when they were beaten 2-1 by Tottenham in EFL round 16, and November 23, when they suffered another loss at the hands of Tottenham.
The shocking home loss which makes it the worst run for City in 18 years, got fans from Etihad thinking it was time for the legendary manager to move away from the club with an overwhelming #PEPOUT cry trending on X across many countries including the UK.
In the run to the Saturday loss, Pep lost away to Bournemouth by 2 goals to 1 in the Premier League, before going to lose 4 goals to 1 in Champions League matchday 4 against Sporting, and then another 2 – 1 loss in the Premier League to Brighton.
Pep may not be leaving Ethihad anytime soon
Sadly for many fans who feel it is time for the ace manager to leave the club, that may not be happening at least for the next two years as he has committed to the club for the next two years after he signed a new two-year contract with the club ahead of the game.
The deal, announced by an excited Manchester City Chairman Khaldoon Al Mubarak on the club’s website, will see Pep become the longest-serving manager in the club’s history and also one of the longest managers in the Premier League.
A quick glance at Pep’s career to date
Pep started his senior managerial career in 2008 with Barcelona before moving to Bayern Munich in 2013. Three years later, he moved to Manchester City, where he helped the club win six EPL titles and a Champions League trophy.
