Kevin Oghenetega Tamaraebi Bakumo-Abraham popularly known as Tammy Abraham is a professional football star who previously played for Chelsea FC in the English Premier League as well as for the England National team. He currently plays for A. S. Roma in Serie A after he made his move in 2021.
After he started playing for Chelsea FC, many believed he could as well be the next Didier Drogba considering the number of goals he scored in his early days with the club. Unfortunately, that was not to be as after only 4 seasons, a better of which were spent on loan, he was sold to the Serie A team.
Tammy Abraham – Biography
Tammy was born in England, in a South London District called Camberwell on the 2nd of October 1997. It was also there that he was brought by his parents alongside a younger brother.
As a child growing up, Tammy was involved in drama while in school. But, although that was something that he loved doing, his main passion was football and so he would later leave acting to concentrate on football fully.
Abraham’s Club Football Career
His youth career as a footballer began at age 7 when he joined the Chelsea F.C. Academy. In 2015 and 2016, Tammy Abraham played with the Chelsea youth team in the UEFA Youth League and the Football Association Youth Challenge Cup. He played nine matches and scored an outstanding number of eight goals which made him the second-best goal scorer in the tournament.

Tammy also played the winning goal in the FA Cup final against Manchester City. He stayed in the youth team for only two seasons (2014-2015 & 2015-2016) and played in 98 matches scoring a total of 74 goals.
As expected, Guus Hiddink, the manager then, grew an interest in Abraham and extended an invite for training with the senior team. When Chelsea played against Liverpool on 11th May 2016, Abraham was called on at the 74th minute to replace the Burkinabe forward, Bertrand Isidore Traore. He also served as a replacement to Bertrand in the Chelsea- Leicester City match the next week.
Bristol City
Tammy was then loaned out to Bristol City in 2016. During his stay at Bristol City, he was the club’s number 1 goalscorer and also won two awards: Young Player of the Season and Club’s Player of the Season.
Swansea City
From Bristol, the young Striker moved on to Wales, England, to play for Swansea City Association Football Club. This came a day after he signed on with Chelsea for a 5-year contract. In a season that saw Swansea relegated, he ended with 8 goals in 39 games.
Aston Villa
Next, he went on another loan with Aston Villa where he became an important player for the team, scoring 25 goals in 37 appearances. He played his first match with the club on the 15th of September. On the 19th of the same month, he scored his first goal for Aston Villa in the match against Blackburn Rovers.
He was tagged Player of the Month (November) by Sky Bet Championship. His seeming success seems to have sparked a very fresh interest for Chelsea.
Return To Chelsea
Following the return of Frank Lampard to Chelsea as head coach, he decided to give young players such as Abraham and Mason Mount a chance. He was handed the number 9 jersey. In his first 9 games for the club, Abraham scored 8 goals. He also played 2 Champions League games and scored a goal.
He was the youngest Chelsea player to score a hat trick in the Premier League following his 3 goals against Wolverhampton Wanderers in a 5-1 trashing. The record was later broken by Christian Pulisic.
By 2021, he had won the UEFA Champions League as well as the UEFA Super Cup with the team before he was sold to Roma for £34m on a five-year contract. Tammy Abraham’s transfer to AS Roma was finalized on the 17th of August 2021 and the 27 year old left Chelsea players, staff, and fans emotional with his move to Roma.
Tammy Abraham’s International Career
Although Tammy was eligible to play for Nigeria, his father’s country, he has chosen to play for England and subsequently picked up his first call-up for the senior England national team in 2017 November. Although he could have still played for Nigeria, he played a competitive game for England in 2019, which means he is now an English national player.
Abraham was present at the UEFA European Under-21 Championship in 2017 where he represented England as an under-18 player. England played against Germany in the semi-finals of the Championship which was hosted by Poland. As of 90 minutes, both teams were on 2 goals with one of England’s goals by Abraham. The game ended in favor of Germany though, as they got 4 of their penalties while England got 3 (Abraham and Redmond lost their spot-kicks).

Tammy wasn’t chosen on the squad for the 2018 FIFA World Cup but played in the Toulon Tournament in France. There, he was instrumental in the team winning the title for the third time in a role.
In his fourth game for the Three Lions, Tammy Abraham scored his first international goal in November 2019 in a 7-0 thrashing of Montenegro in a UEFA Euro 2020 qualification match.

Abraham’s father is a Nigerian and judging by his name, Oghenetega Tamaraebi, he is from the Ijaw tribe of Nigeria. While no information has been provided about Tammy Abraham’s mother, it is said that both his parents moved to England at a very young age and have been there since then.
