Timmy Chang is famous for being a coach as well as a former American football player during which he was able to set scores of Division I NCAA records.

He has been an offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach for Jackson State in Southern Methodist University. He is currently the tight-end coach at the University of Nevada.

Timmy Chang Biography

Timmy Chang was born on the 9th of October 1981 as Timothy Kealii’okaaina Awa Chang in Waipahu, Hawaii.

He attended the St. Louis Schools in Honolulu as an honors student under a three-year letterman both in football and basketball. Chang later graduated from High School in 2000.

Chang proceeded to the  University of Hawaiʻi at Mānoaafter completing. While in the University, he joined the college football team as the quarterback.

During his college career, he had finished several existing NCAA Division I records as well as gone a step further to set fresh records.

After he retired from professional football in 2009 he returned to Hawaii to complete his undergraduate degree in sports and fitness.

There is no doubt that Chang’s football career kicked off significantly while he was in college where he played from 2000 to 2004 featuring in five successive seasons for the University of Hawai’i Warriors as a quarterback.

He was ranked second in total offensive yards with 16,910 and career passing yards of 17,072 and he is also the eleventh player in touchdown passes with 117 passes.

His college career reaches its peak when he was given the title of the Most Valuable Player of the 2003 Hawaii Bowl as a result of a triple-overtime victory over the University of Houston.

He became the last man standing for the Johnny Unitas Golden Arm Award of the 2004 season, making it into the cameo in NCAA Football 06 in an opening and he was also named Co-MVP, alongside Chad Owens, of the 2004 Hawaii Bowl in a victory over the University of Alabama at Birmingham.

With such record-breaking performance in college football, the Arizona Cardinals were not hesitant to draft him, despite not being drafted during the 2005 NFL Draft in the same year, however, he did not make it all the way.

Later, Chang played in the preseason for the Detroit Lions but again, did not make the final lineup. However, he managed to sign with the Philadelphia Eagles, who featured him in the NFL Europe in 2006.

He also played for the Rhein Fire of NFL Europa for the 2006 season, where he strived hard to complete 50 of 90 passes for 657 yards, 5 touchdowns, and 4 interceptions Chang was also in the training camp with the Philadelphia Eagles in 2006 but was laid off shortly before the commencement of the regular season.

Again was traded with Edmonton Eskimo to the Hamilton Tiger-Cats of the CFL, that was on the 13th of March 2007 The Hamilton Tiger-Cats of CFL acquired the negotiating rights to Chang

In the wake of the 2007 season, he started two of 18 games played and was able to complete 42 of 89 pass attempts for 467 yards, with a lone touchdown, and 7 interceptions.

Chang was subsequently left the Tiger-Cats on August 29, 2008, and was signed by the Winnipeg Blue Bombers the following day.

Timmy Chang later took a strong decision of retiring from professional football in 2009 so as to complete his Bachelor’s Degree at the University of Hawaii.

After retirement from playing, Chang then joined the coaching line and in February 2014, he joined the Southern Methodist University as a graduate assistant and an offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach for the Jackson State, assisting their then-new coach Harold Jackson.

In his debut season as offensive coordinator, Jackson State Chang averaged 25.8 points per game he was able to coach and inspire QB La Montiez Ivy who threw for 3,209 yards and 22 touchdowns as well as WR Daniel Williams who finished the season with 73 catches for 1,004 yards and 9 touchdowns and the duo was named to the All-SWAC team all thanks to Chang’s coaching efforts.

Subsequently, in December 2016 it was announced that Chang would join Jay Norvell’s staff at Nevada as Assistant Coach/Tight Ends Coach and an inside wide receivers coach. That came to play in 2018 change is still there hitherto in the most sensitive coaching position.

Timmy Change has been happily married since 2017. His wife’s name is Sherry. Their marriage has been blessed with three children: Audriri-Lee, Lion, and London.

Chang was also involved in a scandal on 2nd July 2009, when he was arrested on a charge of suspected robbery.

His ordeal started when Police alleged that he had an encounter with a woman who was covering a fighting scene with her camera in Honolulu’s Pearlridge neighborhood.

After attempts to stop the woman failed Chang forcefully took off her camera and threw it to the roof, he was therefore charged with criminal property damage and harassment, in which Chang pleaded guilty to both crimes in February 2010. And the consequence included six-month probation.
