Jaime Jr. started boxing when he was very young. He joined his father’s boxing gym as a youngster and quickly displayed that he was a natural fighter. He demonstrated his ability to carry out daily tasks both inside and outside of the ring. When it came to fighting, he was also incredibly smart.

2. Jaime Munguia had a strong amateur background

Munguia had a distinguished amateur career, competing in national events all throughout Mexico and winning medals just like his counterpart, Mauricio Lara Acosta. At the age of just 16, Munguia made his stage debut in Tijuana, Mexico, on July 13, 2013, with the assistance of Fernando Beltran’s Zanfer Promotions. In only two rounds, he eliminated Manuel Mora.

Munguia has been a very active boxer ever since. He took part in three more fights that year, winning each one by knockout. He competed four times at the four-round level in 2014, and four more times in 2015, moving up to the eight-round level. Munguia upset Julio Nario, who was unbeaten at the time, to earn a significant victory that year.

In Munguia’s career, 2016 was a vital year. He had seven fights that year, won three tests against more seasoned opponents like Ramiro Alcaraz, Alfredo Chavez, and lvaro Robles, and for the first time, fought outside of his native state, including once in Sonora and once in Nuevo Leon.

Munguia gained popularity throughout Mexico in 2017 by competing seven times against well-known opponents like Juan Macas Montiel, Johnny Navarrete, and Uriel González. Then, Munguia won a fight in Las Vegas over Paul Valenzuela in two rounds, marking his American debut.

3. 2018 was one of His best years

Munguia had an outstanding year in 2018. He was initially considered a possible opponent for Gennady Golovkin after he defeated José Carlos Paz in three rounds in a fight that took place in February of the same year. However, the Nevada Athletic Commission did not grant the combatant permission. After knocking out José Carlos Paz in three rounds in a fight held in February, Munguia was mentioned as a potential opponent for Gennady Golovkin. Looking back, Munguia appreciates this decision because it made it possible for him to accept the WBO Junior Middleweight World Championship bout that same month with just two weeks’ notice. Munguia won the title in his first fight in New York by stopping Sadam Ali in the fourth round after dropping him four times.

2019 saw the signing of a strategic co-promotional deal between Golden Boy and Zanfer Promotions to promote Jaime Munguia. With Golden Boy and DAZN’s new cooperation, Munguia had an opportunity to distinguish himself as one of the sport’s rising stars.
