Lanny Poffo is many things all in one; a wrestler, motivational speaker, poet, and actor. However, it is as a wrestler that he has come to be known. The highlight of his career was a victory over legendary wrestler, Hulk Hogan. He began his wrestling career in 1973 and has since then achieved so much in his personal and professional life.

Lanny Poffo Biography

Referred to by many as the Genius, the wrestler was born Lanny Mark Poffo on the 28th of December, 1954. He is a son to the World Championship Wrestling (WCW) Hall of Famer and owner of the former International Championship Wrestling, Angelo Poffo who died at the age of 84 in 2010. His mother is Judy Poffo, a woman Lanny referred to as ‘Macho mom’ after her demise at the age of 90.

As a result of the influence of his father and growing up in a wrestling environment, he was easily drawn into the sport rather early. His first trainer was his father who taught him everything there was to know about the sport.

His brother is the legend wrestler Randall Mario Poffo, best known as ‘Macho man’ Randy Savage who died at the age of 58 in 2011. Detail about his ex-wife or present marital relationship is not yet available. Lanny has a daughter with his ex-wife named Megan Poffo. He went to high school in Downers Grove North High School.

Lanny, known as “Leaping” Lanny was later referred to as “The Genius” because of his intelligence, poetry which mostly ridicules the face of wrestlers and his choice of academic cap and gown to the ring.

One of Lanny’s most talk about fight and victory is his fight against the World Wrestling Federation (WWF) Heavyweight Champion, Hulk Hogan in the 25th of November, 1989 edition of WWF Saturday Night’s Main Event. The Genius used an antic to draw attention from the audience and to provoke Hogan.

Eventually, Hogan unknowingly fell to the Genius plan and with the help of Mr. Perfect hitting Hogan with the championship belt, Hogan was down outside the ring and the Genius won the fight by knockout. Sometime later, The Genius became the Beverly Brothers (Mike Enos and Wayne Bloom) manager.

As a poet, the wrestler has two books to his name, Leaping Lanny: Wrestling With Rhyme which was published in 1988 and Limericks from the heart which he published in 2004.

Though he tried to keep his private life away from the public, he couldn’t help but celebrate his non-smoking daughter of almost 21 years of age. The anti-smoking activist according to online sources, was quoted as saying ‘’that’s one thing my ex-wife and I can agree on and feel proud of as we, at least, have a child that is a non-smoker’’.

Though Lanny didn’t mention the name of his ex-wife, it’s obvious they were together for some time. Since the divorce, it is still not known whether or not Lanny is married or in a relationship with anyone.
